It was a really long weekend for me. Making my girlfriend a vibrator (not for xxx btw), and help another housemate to move to her new place. But the most interesting thing I did was fixing our internet router and modem.
We are unlucky bunch as we missed the free installation for fiber internet, and now if we want to use fiber, we need to fork out 200+ $ dollar. Meanwhile, our 200Mbps cable connection is working great, except a very annoying issue: The router and the modem overheating and drop the connection once or twice every day.
It wasn't a big issue previously, as resetting can solve the problem. However, it has gotten worse, to the point of thrice everyday. So, I decided to fix it.
We have some spare 80mm computer fan from our previous housemate. As a junk collector, I have a decent stock of random power supply for phone, router, switches and other bullshit. Hook the power supply (nokia 5v 1a) with the fan, cut the casing of the modem open, use some foam tape to link those together.
That's all I did. As the router processors have already had some heat sinks (and that didn't function well enough), extra airflow really did wonder. The system has been stable for the pass few days, so no extra upgrade needed anymore :)
